Ethiopian Airlines flies to Eritrea, buys stake in Eritrean Airlines

Eritrea Earlier this month, Ethiopia and Eritrea declared an end to the state of war that had existed between them since 1998. The Eritrean embassy in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa was re-opened Monday, following a visit over the weekend by Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, who was received by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. The weekend prior, Abiy was in the Eritrean capital of Asmara. Abiy, 41, has spearheaded swift reforms since taking power in April, following a political crisis in which his predecessor resigned amid mass anti-government protests. Abiy ended the Ethiopian government’s self-imposed state of emergency two months early and has opened up sectors of the heavily state-controlled economy to private investment. Ethiopia is positing itself as a regional manufacturing and export hub, achieved through its China-style, state-led development model . The country has seen double-digit economic growth as recently as 2017, although approximately one-third of its inhabitants live below the poverty line. Eritrea, meanwhile, is known as one of the most secretive — and least developed — countries in the world. Now that flights have resumed, Ethiopian and Eritrean passport holders will be able to travel between the two countries and "be granted a visa by the respective authorities on arrival," Fitsum Arega, Abiy's chief of staff, tweeted last week. “The perception that Ethiopia offers more substantial economic opportunities could lead to substantial migration (by Eritreans),” Pat Thaker, editorial director for the Middle East and North Africa at analysis firm Economist Intelligence Unit, told CNBC.

Traveling Safely- What You Need To Know

You may forget important traveling factors when you're hurrying to drive to the next destination or to catch a flight. Planning ahead will help smooth things along. This article helps you remember some ideas you already knew and pick up some new tips for your next trip.

If you have known food allergies, be very careful about food when traveling in foreign countries. If your food allergy is particularly bad, make sure to express this in their language. This will help you ask locals about foods you want to avoid. Also, if the worst happens, you'll be able to tell a doctor about your allergies.

Are you traveling to a country that requires vaccinations? It is not recommended to take this suggestion lightly as it can create the situation where you are detailed between destinations until they get the proof they require. With no certificate, there is no way to prove to the authorities that you have been vaccinated, and you could be quarantined.

Even if you are taking a long flight, bring your own comfort supplies and don't rely on airline personnel to provide them. Provide your own blanket and pillow if you know that you will have a requirement for them, your own headphones too. Perhaps you should bring some snacks if it is allowed.

Workout at the gym prior to your flight. This can reduce the monotony of a long flight. When you are forced to sit in the same position for hours on end, your back and legs can cramp up. Having a quick workout or, at the very least, stretching before a flight can reduce or eliminate leg cramps and soreness.

As you search for an inexpensive flight, go to the website for every airline that heads out to your chosen destination. Sometimes they have better prices than the discount travel websites.

Travel is a great way to educate family members. By taking time and preparing, there is nothing to fear from the developing world. It is a great way to show other cultures to children. The best way to foster tolerance for other cultures in your children is to spend time in other countries with them.

When you are taking a long trip but traveling light, bring a soft-lined raincoat. You never can predict what the weather will do. With its multi-use, a raincoat can be a windbreaker in cool weather and even a bathrobe after a shower in the hotel room.

Sign up for forums and social sites that are focused on travel. Looking for fellow travelers that you can share your time with and talk to is a great way to prepare for your trip. You can learn what NOT to do on your travels, and you may even pick up a new friend in the process!

Use sleeping pills to help you fall asleep on an overnight flight. For many, sleeping on a noisy and uncomfortable airplane can be difficult. A sleeping pill may be just what you need to go to sleep quickly and make it through your flight without any problems. Nonetheless, don't take pills before takeoff. This could be bad for you in case the plane needs to return to the airport due to a problem.

Always check expiration dates on of all of your passports. Review passport rules for the country you are visiting. Some of them have very strict guidelines that must be followed. A country may decide to not let you enter if your passport is expiring within a certain amount of time. The limit on expired passports can range up to six months; some countries may go up to a year.

Think about the way to correct problems from your last vacation. The article above is a great starting point, but by all means not the only ideas. Jot down a few notes and prepare for the next adventure. Any good travel tips will help you have a better trip.

14 fascinating facts about South Korea

Halla Mountain, at 1,940m above sea level, is South Korea’s highest peak, while the cone of Seongsan Ilchulbong, or “Sunrise Peak”, is particularly spectacular.  The unsung Jeju IslandCredit:Noppasinw - Fotolia/Microsoft Pro Photo Tools In 2011 Jejudo was named among the “New7Wonders of Nature”, though there were accusations that its selection was down not just to its beauty, but also the readiness of tourism and marketing organisations to stump up cash – including taxpayers’ money – to support its campaign. There are also casinos, which help lure travellers from China, and, thanks to the island’s self-governing status, anyone can visit without a visa. But Jejudo also has a dark side. In 1948 and 1949, the South Korean government brutally put down an attempted uprising on the island. Villagers, including women and children, were massacred, and as recently as 2008 mass graves were still being uncovered. Some 30,000 people died as a result of the uprising, with a further 40,000 fleeing to Japan, and the atrocities are remembered at the 4.3 Peace Park memorial. Stone statues on JejuCredit:Savvapanf Photo - Fotolia Bizarrely, there’s also a sex-themed park on the island, Jeju Love Land, which features phallus statues, interactive exhibits on the “masterbation cycle”, and other sculptures of humans in flagrante. Love Land is said to owe its existence to Jejudo’s popularity as a honeymoon destination. Young newlyweds would arrive knowing next to nothing about the birds and the bees so some hotel employees offered to share their expertise.
